How do I become an Umpire?
Interested in becoming a Newmarket Minor Softball Umpire? It is easy!
Step 1. Contact the umpire-in-chief or go to the Newmarket Minor Softball website for information on times and locations of umpire clinics.
Step 2. Attend the umpire clinics and including an on field clinic

Newmarket Minor softball provides all you need to become an umpire, including shirts. All you need to do is show up and have fun with the rest of the players and coaches.

To become a Carded Umpire
This will enable you to umpire anywhere in Canada, including tournaments.
Step 1 - Contact the Umpire-in-Chief for a current Umpire Registration Form. OR Print a copy of the Umpire Registration Form from our web site. - http://www.softballontario.ca/content/view/571 Step 2 - Complete the Umpire Registration Form following the steps as outlined. Be sure to Print carefully and include all required information. Step 3 - Mail the registration form along with the correct registration fee to the Softball Ontario office: Softball Ontario 3 Concorde Gate Toronto, Ontario M3C 3N7 Step 4 - Softball Ontario will process your registration form and forward you an umpire exam package. Don't be scared, it is open book
Umpire Exam Package
The exam package includes:
The Exam Booklet (including the Fast Pitch and Slo-Pitch exam questions)
The Exam Answer sheets (number - depends on the option you choose)
A Softball Canada Rule Book
Liability and Accident Insurance Information (you will be insured when you umpire)
Step 5 - Once you have completed your Softball Canada exam (which will have to in at the office by August), return it to the Softball Ontario office for marking.
If you: Pass - Softball Ontario will provide you with your results, your umpire card and reference/answer sheet. You are done you are now carded. I would suggest taking the level 1 clinic. Fail - Softball Ontario will send another exam answer sheet and rule reference sheet to you so that you can rewrite the exam. You may write the exam a total of three (3) times. Cost for a re-write is $5.00.
